The Salvation Army to Provide Assistance Following Boston Marathon Explosions

The Salvation Army is providing support to survivors and first responders in Boston, Massachusetts, after two explosions occurred near the Boston Marathon finish line Monday afternoon. The blasts caused three deaths and 144 injuries for runners and spectators.
Salvation Army officers and volunteers have deployed two canteens (mobile feeding kitchens) to downtown Boston; one of the canteens will be stationed at the staging area for emergency responders, and the other will be stationed at a gathering spot for impacted families. Salvation Army officers who are trained in crisis counseling are also headed to relevant locations to provide emotional and spiritual care.
“The Salvation Army will be onsite for as long as needed to provide support. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Boston and all who were impacted by the explosions,” said Major Ron Busroe, National Community Relations and Development Secretary for The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is in constant communication with city and state emergency personnel, and will be providing support as needed and requested.

Be Encouraged by God’s Word
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

C. Neil Strait stated:

Give a man a dollar and you cheer his heart. Give him a dream and you challenge his heart. Give him Christ and you change his heart. Then the dollar and a dream become meaningful to him, and to others.

Probably one of the easiest things to do at times is to give money to help others in need. Although this is always required in our society where so many are needy it is not the only way to help others. We must understand that people are made not only of the physical and the emotional but also the spiritual. A wholistic approach to helping others is needed in this day and age. William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army, had the philosophy of “soup, soap, and salvation”. May we work to help others with a wholistic approach. Feeding their hearts, and their minds as well as their bodies.
